Tips for Taking a Cab in Minneapolis

A cab is a great way to travel to and from the airport and can also be a convenient way to get downtown or other places where parking is scarce. Here are some tips that can make your cab ride a pleasant experience.

• When you need a Cab in Minneapolis call the cab company, don’t try to stop a cab in the street. Taxis in Minneapolis work on a dispatch system and the cabs you see on the road are probably on their way to pick up a passenger.

• Estimate your fare before you get in the cab so you will have enough money to pay and tip the driver. The typical minimum fare is $5.00, with the meter starting at $2.50 and increasing in $.50 increments every 1/5 mile. The city of Minneapolis determines the rates for cabs that operate in the city. Suburbs typically follow the city’s rates.

• Be aware of additional fees. Minneapolis cabs charge $.40 per minute when the car is not moving or is moving very slowly. Cab trips that originate from the airport have an additional $4.00 airport access fee included. The driver has to pay the fee and recovers it from the passenger. If more than one passenger is riding in your cab, you should only have to pay the airport fee one time.

• Observe all taxi cab rules while you are riding. If your cab in Minneapolis has no smoking or no eating and drinking signs, follow the rules to avoid a confrontation with your driver. Cab passengers should give their driver respect and expect the same from the driver. If your driver is smoking or playing loud music that you don’t like, feel free to ask them to put out the cigarette or turn down the music.

• If your driver does a good job, picking you up in a timely manner and getting you to your destination safely, a reasonable tip is 15 percent. When you take a cab in Minneapolis, you can pay with cash, credit, debit card or prepaid ride cards. Taxi Service is more convenient and comfortable than public transportation. Reward your driver if he or she makes your trip enjoyable.
