Liposuction in MD is a procedure that is used to remove unwanted fat from the body. It must be stressed that liposuction is not a way of losing weight, liposuction is a procedure that gets rid of the little areas of fat that remain after exercise and diet have brought your weight down. There are two methods of ultrasonic liposuction; internal and external. Ultrasonic energy is changed into high frequency vibrations and heat, this energy is delivered to the body through paddles or metal rods either on the skin or into the body.
Internal liposuction requires the delivery of a special fluid into the fatty area; the fluid is delivered by a needle-like device called a cannula. The ultrasonic vibrations travel through this cannula as does the heat and fluid. The energy from the ultrasonic vibration and heat breaks the fat down into oil which in turn is mixed with the special fluid. The fat and fluid are removed from the body through the cannula using suction.
External liposuction does not require any invasive procedure. The energy is delivered via paddles that are on the surface of the skin over the fatty area, the paddles vibrate and the vibrations in turn break down the fat.
z Unfortunately the results of external liposuction in MD are not as good as internal as the fat is not removed from the body. External liposuction is rarely used as a result of this shortcoming.
Internal liposuction on the other hand does remove the unwanted fat. The most common areas that are treated are the hips and thighs, the stomach, chin and buttocks. If the patient happens to be having lip enhancement therapy at the same time the fat that is removed can be reused for the lips.
The primary benefit of internal liposuction is that the fat, once removed, stays removed. Once the human body has passed puberty it does not create any more fat cells, when a person gains weight it is not the result of more fat cells, it is the result of the existing cells expanding. If, after liposuction, the patient gains weight again it is a result of the cells that remain in the body.
As with all surgical procedures there are risks associated with ultrasonic liposuction, a frank discussion with the dermatologist or other medical professional is warranted.
