In most types of processing, waste management or production facilities odor control may be a central consideration. There are different industrial types of odor control systems available and understanding the differences will be critical to making the right choice.
The differences in the various systems to control odor in industrial facilities and waste management is not just about the actual odor control process. It will also include issues with the cost of operation, cost of installation and the requirements for maintenance of the system selected.
Chemical Scrubbers
Chemical absorption, which is also known as chemical absorption or caustic or acid wet scrubbing. These are complex odor control systems that require the air to be moved through a closed system that contains a chemical solution in water with a packing material to expand the surface. The air is streamed through the system, and the chemicals absorb the odor causing molecules.
This is a system that requires constant maintenance, it is costly to install, and it can take up a significant amount of space in an indoor facility.
Misting Systems
In virtually all cases of industrial odor, the simplest solution is always the most effective and the most cost efficient. Using misting systems, which produce an extremely fine mist of microns sized water droplets, provides a very effective way to distribute odor control chemicals.
There is a much greater surface area covered, and the mister systems and lines are very simple and low cost to install both indoors and out. They can be installed overhead or, for large areas where it is important to focus the odor control systems, misting cannons can be used.
The fine droplets do not result in accumulation of moisture, but they do provide both cooling as well as humidity control that is not found with other types of systems for odor control.
