Headaches can be serious issue for most people, but for about 15% of the population experience much more than just a bad headache, they suffer from chronic or occasional migraines. For these people migraine pain relief becomes critical as these extreme types of headaches can be debilitating and devastating.

It is not uncommon for individuals with migraines to have associated nausea, vomiting and digestive problems before, during and after the migraine. They may also have extreme sensitivity to light, sounds or smells and may literally need to just stay in a dark, cool room until the pain passes. In the case of chronic migraines this can impact a person’s ability to work, go to school, and lead a normal life.

Causes of Migraine

To understand the most effective types of migraine pain relief it is important to know the causes or triggers for migraine. Triggers vary from person to person and can include hormonal changes in the body, hunger, stress, exhaustion and fatigue, as well as injury or chronic pain.

As this is a neurological event there is often an aura present prior to the actual headache developing. The aura is not the trigger or cause, but rather the first signs of the pending migraine. The aura, for people that experience this activity in the brain, will precede the reaction of the pain sensors in the neck and head that cause the extreme pain.

Migraine Pain Relief Options

Prescription medications or over-the-counter headache and migraine pain relief medications can be effective for some people, especially if taken at the first onset of a migraine. However, many people do not respond to the medications or, if they are taken over time, they become less effective in pain management and migraine reduction. Some of these medications, including NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and triptans can have side effects and may not be used in combination with specific other prescription medications.

Surgical procedures, including neck and spinal surgery to decompress the spine or actually remove trigger points or muscles to prevent tension in the neck can be effective in cases that do not respond to medication. However, these treatments are not recommended for all people and they do have associated risks.

Chiropractic treatments and realigning the spine and neck is a non-surgical option for preventative migraine pain relief. It is helpful in reducing associated or non-associated neck and back pain and can be essential in reducing the frequency of both migraines and tension headaches.

We provide an effective, non-surgical and non-medication option for migraine pain relief.
