Important Things to Know About Caribbean Medical Colleges

by | Aug 27, 2021 | Medical School

There are many different countries that actively recruit students in India to study an MBBS at one of their colleges or medical universities. These countries range from Kazakhstan and Georgia to China, the Philippines, and even medical colleges in Russia.

Students who want to study in a warm, tropical climate that offers year-round beautiful weather are drawn to the possibility of attending Caribbean medical colleges. This is an amazingly beautiful part of the world, and there are some exceptional quality medical colleges on the islands.

Understanding CAAM-HP & ACCM Accreditations

The most important issue to consider with Caribbean medical colleges is if they are accredited by either CAAM-HP or ACCM. The Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions, also known as CAAM-HP, & Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine, also know as ACCM, are the only governing bodies in the Caribbean that sets standards and accredits programs from the medical colleges and universities in the area.

Students attending Caribbean medical colleges that do not have the CAAM-HP or ACCM accreditation will find their MBBS is not recognized anywhere in the world. This means these students cannot become doctors anywhere in the world.

Does the College Provide ACGME Green Book Rotations?

Although the Caribbean is not part of the United States, the close proximity makes it easy for students to complete Green Book Clinical Rotations at ACGME approved teaching hospitals in the United States.

It is essential to verify the college in the Caribbean provides these ACGME approved Green Book Clinical rotations to be able to complete your PG in the USA and work there, or in India, as a doctor.
