What Items Need to Be Removed Because of Water Damage in a Home?

If you have had a flood in your home, you may start to wonder what items need to be removed and replaced because of Water Damage. While some items can be dried out, others have to be completely torn out and replaced. Here are three different items that must be replaced if they have come in contact with inches of water.

Dry Wall:

Once dry wall has gotten wet, there is no salvaging it. If you were to all the dry wall to dry, it would always maintain the wavy texture water exposure created, and it would have lost much of its strength. Although it may be a big job, replacing dry wall that has been saturated is a must.

Insulation:

Unless you have spray foam insulation, your insulation is not water-resistant. When it gets wet, the fibers deteriorate, causing the insulation to be inefficient. If you were to leave your current insulation in place, you also run the risk of mold beginning to develop on the insulation. As such, it is important to always remove all of the insulation that has come into contact with water following a flood.

Carpet or Wood Flooring:

The last item that needs to be removed because of Water Damage in a home is your carpet or wood flooring. Certain types of tile and linoleum floors may be unaffected by water, so always ask your contractor whether you can leave your flooring if you do not have carpet or wood. Both carpet and wood are completely destroyed by large amounts of water. Removing the flooring right away will also help your sub-floor to dry out properly and faster.

If you have had a flood in your home, selecting the right contractor is key. The right Naples water damage contractor can tell you what items need to be removed and what items can be restored. They can then help you remove any sitting water, dry out the space with dehumidifiers and fans and begin the repair process.
